Future Professional, Program and Personal Goals

  1. Stay up-to-date regarding current trends in media including but not limited to reading promotion, technology, research, adolescent literature.  In order to reach these goals I will complete staff development and college courses, attend conferences, read professions journals, and moniter new selection tools.  Time frame:  Ongoing
  2. Develop a school wide reading program.  I would like to work with teachers to develop a new school wide summer reading program in which every teacher would sponsor a book and lead discussions during the first week of school--a program similar to Peachtree Ridge's "Reading Across the Ridge".  I will do research to find other schools that sponsor a similar program.  I will  do interviews with participants to determine the best plan of action.  After getting approval from the administration, I will work with a group of teachers to create  a proposal to present to the rest of the faculty.  Time frame: one year of planning and one year to fully implement the program.
  3. Update the technology in the media center.  As the media center recieves a facility upgrade in the next several years, I will write grants that will provide the media center with additional laptops, a smart board, a ceiling mounted projector and a sound system.  Time frame:  3 years
  4. Become proficient in a foreign language.  The current language most needed in the media center is Spanish however, when our district is divided, Korean will be the most prominent language behind English.  I will take conversational language classes at Gwinnett Tech.  In the meantime, I will work with translators to make the media center a more accessible place for all students.  Time frame: ongoing.
  5. Spend three months in Paris.   Since taking French in high school and college, I've always wanted to have an extended stay in Paris. I want to see if I can acclimate to the French Culture and live like a true Parisian with the safety net of my large group of friends and family.  I will create a budget that allows me to save more money per month and begin planning my trip for the summer of 2009.  Time frame:  1.5 years.
