What sets me apart from most candidates for Media Certification is that I got my job before I began a certification program.  This unusual circumstance was both a blessing and a curse.   It was a blessing in that I could see practical application for literally everything we did in class.  I didn't have to imagine how our project would one day fit into my career as I was living it daily!  Landing my job early was a curse in that I had to face people that thought that I wasn't qualified for the job and resented me for taking a position away from a certified applicant.  I do have to say that I NEVER had to deal with those people during my course work as everyone involved in the UGA SLM department (from the instructors to the support personnel to the students) was always so supportive and helpful.

I am in the unique position to work with my best friend everyday.  Honestly, I can't believe that we get paid to work together--we have so much fun.  Carla is an amazing media specialist and teachers and I am inspired by her each day.  Her ability to relate to high school students is breathtaking!  I've been told that we are the perfect balance for each other; her few weaknesses are my strengths and my many shortcoming are her strengths!

Some other things that you might not know about me:

  • I was a finalist for the television reality series "Big Brother".  The producers chose the more glamorous FBI agent over the nerdy Chemistry Teacher.
  • If I wasn't an educator I'd be an artist.  I am an avid watercolorist and charcoal artist!
  •  I have an English Bulldog named Baxter--yup, he's named after the street in Athens.
